KLUANG, Aug 25 : The school session of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tanjung Andang Iskandar Puteri, located near forest fires which began two days ago, will go on as usual.
Johor State Education Department deputy director Sallina Hussain said the department has not received any decision or instruction from the state Department of Environment (DOE) for a temporary closure or to give leave to the school.
“So far, we (Education Department) are providing masks to students. So long as there is no announcement by DOE, we will continue lessons as usual,” she said.
She was met by reporters at the opening of a Youth Mind Transformation programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan LKTP Belitong here today by Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
Sallina said she learned that about 60 per cent of the forest fires had been put out by firefighters.
